EAR SURGERY / OTOPLASTY
Protruding ears are probably the most common physical characteristic that causes the request for facial plastic surgery. Kids, long the victims of wild nicknames like “Dumbo” or “Mickey Mouse,” are the most suitable candidates for otoplasty, but this surgery can be done at any age after the ears have reached full volume, normally around five to six years of age. Even if the ears are only slightly distorted, the state can lead to self-consciousness and poor conditioning in school. When it comes to Otoplasty, conventional wisdom is the earlier the better.
Adults may also profit from this method, which develops self-esteem with relative ease. Usually, adults choose this surgery in connection with other facial cosmetic surgical methods. Not only is it possible to “pin back” ears, but ears can also be reshaped, decreased in size, or made more shapely. Otoplasty is a method that needs a combination of meticulous and artistic surgery. That is because it is just skin over a cartilage framework. In the ear, there are no muscles, tendons, bones, vital structures, joints or other structures to deal with.
DR. RAGHU EXPLAINS
It is a great opportunity to examine patients with ear problems, particularly children. I examine patients of all ages with all kinds of ear problems, and I realize that the one regular thread in all of you is that you actually hate the appearance of your ears, have been always self-conscious (and possibly teased), try to hide your ears below long hair, and are extremely motivated to have this fixed. I know very well how you feel, and I am very compassionate for you. I can cure this problem for you.
Ear problems and deformations span the spectrum of all ages and all kinds of conditions—some you are born with and others earned. Essentially all patients, also those who have had previous surgery, can be helped. Patient requests are for smaller ears that do not stick out from the head as much or patients ask smaller earlobes, restoration of torn earlobes from earrings, more natural shape to the ears, or that I do the ears match. The anatomy of the ear adjusts itself so beautifully to very careful and artistic surgery. That is because it is only skin over a cartilage framework.
I know exactly what the cartilage framework is like, work with what you like, and perform surgery that will provide you with beautiful and actual results. There are several factors that come into play, in this case, that must be addressed prior to your surgery. I will adjust the characteristics of your anatomy with your expectations, formulate a plan with you, and guide you in this process. The spectrum of various ear plastic surgical procedures I offer in my practice includes:
- Otoplasty: This is the medical name for any plastic-surgical ear method in which the ear is very noticeable, sticks out from the head, or has unusually shaped cartilage or earlobe. A little incision behind the ear in the crease allows for the display of the ear cartilage, reshaping, and fixing of these problems or any unevenness from side to side.
- Ear Reduction Surgery: This is to lessen the size of the ear when it is regularly shaped but overall too large, too long. The incisions are customized according to what you have and want to be fixed.
- Earlobe Surgery: This is to reduce large, hanging earlobes to a more young look. It is also for patients who have had ripped earlobes from studs and patients who need a return to normal earlobes that can take studs again.
- Piercing Earlobes: Yes, I do this too.
Surgery on the ear is very well permitted since good regional anesthesia is almost all you ever want however, I use the local and a light general anesthetic to give you with a very comfortable and safe surgery and recovery. The method is relatively quick and is done where I do surgery, which is in a hospital environment. The surgery is safe and predictable. All of the stitches are dissolvable, and you can back to work in as little as three days. You can back to some physical exercise in the second week.
